Signify Sales Engineer, Matt Ford, is attempting to become a Guinness World Record™ breaker. Starting on the 17 September 2009, Matt and his friend Chris Marchant will attempt to break the record for the longest pool match ever played.
To break the record Matt and Chris will need to play pool continuously for 54 hours, the existing record of 53 hours and 25 minutes is held by Brian Lilley and Daniel Maloney (both USA).
This ‘pool marathon’ isn’t all about breaking records though; Matt and Chris are aiming to raise large amounts of money for charity. They are aiming to raise funds for The Paul Hunter Foundation and Addenbrookes Charitable Trust.
"We have chosen two charities to support via our event: The Paul Hunter Foundation was set up by his widow Lindsey in memory of Paul, a snooker professional who died in October 2006 just five days short of his 28th birthday. Paul was suffering from malignant neuroendocrine tumours. The Foundation was set up to give disadvantaged children places to play sport and socialise, something that was very dear to Paul's heart. The second charity to benefit from this world record attempt is The Addenbrookes Charitible Trust, with all funds raised going towards the research and treatment of testicular and prostate cancer.”
The event is being hosted in the Grafton Shopping Centre, Cambridge, UK and Matt wants as many people to come along as possible:
"At the event there will be two pool tables, one of which will be used for a "Beat the Pro" style competition where the public can test their pool skills against some of Britain’s finest players including professional snooker players Neil Robertson and Joe Perry, an ex England international and local County team players. We also have a raffle with various prizes donated from companies around the UK, and a sweepstake for the number of frames we complete within the 54hrs."
Signify are delighted to be supporting Matt in his world record attempt and hope to help him raise lots of money for some very worthwhile charities.
